STORY
The first Coppelia shop, whose name derives from Leo Delibes’ homonymous ballet, was opened by an entrepreneur who understood the increasing need to offer technical items to professional and amateur dancers and to dance schools.
The availability of tutus, pointe shoes, ballet shoes, leotards and special tights was very short at that time, in fact there were only three or four specialized shops in Italy. Neverthless, the demand of those items was constantly increasing thanks to the evolution and the growing popularity of the art of dancing.
From the beginning, the Coppelia shop distinguished itself for its dynamism and its attention to the market trends, and was in evidence for the range of the distributed brands (some of them imported by exclusive sales agreement) and for its Coppelia-branded dance shoes and apparel (leotards, warm up accessories, tights).
The success of the first shop and the growing public demand lead to the opening of new sales points in Bergamo and in Rome. The Rome shop, placed in the city center, near the Termini railway station, in Piazza dell’Esquilino, proved to be the most important point of sale in the Italian dance field. Professional dance schools in Rome and in the centre and south of Italy quickly appreciated its stock and the experience and skill of its staff.
While the Coppelia shops were expanding and increasing considerably, a new commercial and nanifacturing enterprise started in the field of the dance items wholesale trade: Dance Trading Company srl. DTC was founded in 1998, as the Coppelia brand owner. It acts as holding company for the group business and plays an essential role in the European dance field, thanks to its deep knowledge of the manufacturers and of the Italian and international market. Customers appreciate the variety and flexibility of its supplies, the excellent price/quality ratio of its products and especially its excellent service. The most important international brands entrust DTC experience and professionalism with their Italian distribution. Now DTC is increasing its range of apparel, accessories and ballet shoes: especially dance tights distinguish themselves at international level and are successfully exported in Europe, Usa and Japan.
